Organising gets the goods!
In November 2023, thousands of Bangladeshi workers took to the streets to protest the very low minimum wage that had been announced. Workers were met with violence and arrests, and 48,000 of them faced the threat of arrest because of largely unfounded mass criminal cases.
A global campaign urging brands to intervene resulted in the first ten mass cases being dropped. Then, following the overthrow of the Hasina regime, Bangladesh trade unions successfully asserted pressure on the interim government to drop all outstanding cases.
