One company, more cases

This timeline shows two cases CCC worked on in 2012 involving the German discounter KiK. Both had to do with fire, health and safety.

Quite often, we come across the same global brands in multiple Urgent Appeals. This is a result of how the garment industry is organised: most brands have dozens, even hundreds of production sites, spread out over several countries.

We present here two serious cases involving KiK not because KiK is exceptionally ruthless about contracting; most of the factories they work with also produce for other brands. But it does illustrate very well how common the violations are, and that it is required from companies to - next to resolving existing cases - learn from these cases and work with the workers and their representatives in their supply chains to implement general policies to prevent new accidents from happening.
