Last Friday 16th December the twelve workers accused as a consequence of the riot police intervention in a labour conflict in the Korean-owned SAE-A garment factory in Nicaragua in June, received their sentence. CCC continues to demand that all charges be dropped.

Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) is today raising concerns about the safety of trade union leaders and workers in Bangladesh, after a number of labour activists and workers were arrested on apparently arbitrary grounds. The arrests have come in the wake of a week of unrest, as thousands of workers in the Ashulia area of Dhaka went on strike to demand higher wages.

Take action: Make sure Benetton pays what they owe

We know that Benetton cares about what people think. They only signed the Accord last year following a million signature campaign demanding they did so. Now they are avoiding their obligation and are ignoring the plight of the Rana Plaza victims. Benetton must take responsibility now.

The following report from March 2014 was written in response to the violent crackdown of garment workers in Phnom Penh in January 2014. It discusses the current human and labor rights crisis affecting garment workers in Cambodia; its relationship to the underlying issue of inadequate wages; the response of university licensees to the WRC’s recent communications to them on this subject; and the WRC’s recommendations for further action by licensees and other brands and retailers doing business in Cambodia.
